Welcome to Mid Michigan Learn and Serve!
Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Intermediate School Districts have formed a partnership with the goal of becoming a regional service learning network. This project will enable the expansion of service-learning into schools not currently utilizing this teaching strategy. This grant includes funds for teacher training, the development of a web-based regional Learn and Serve calendar and a data-base of training programs and materials for loan. The theme of this project is Expanding Civic Education Through Service-Learning and Mentoring. This program awards Mini-Grants to teachers to implement the service-learning projects with their students. Participants will be eligible to apply for project mini-grants and for sub reimbursement support to attend sessions. The deadline for mini grant applications is Jan. 16, 2006.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The National Council for the Social Studies Civic Connections Program links local history inquiry with community service-learning activities. Teachers will develop and adopt these activities based on their students' interests and abilities, the needs or problems in the local community, and their local social studies curriculum requirements. Maximum Award: $7500.00. Eligibility: Teams of three 3rd-12th grade teachers and must partner with at least on local community agency. Deadline: February 26, 2006

The Service-Learning Teacher Fellows is a corps of experienced teachers who run exemplary service-learning projects and who are willing and able to share their expertise and enthusiasm with their peers. The Fellows are respected members of their school district’s service-learning team. They mentor and train teachers and administrators in effective service-learning practices, write curricula, publish articles, and promote the use of service-learning as an effective teaching tool. The 2006-2007 Fellows are: Olga Albert, Belding Middle School; Dana Blank, Ovid-Elsie High School; Jamie Christians, Lowell High School; Tracey Fritz, Churchill Elementary in Muskegon; Dave Gilbert, North Star Academy in Marquette; Teresa Gonzales, Honey Creek Community Schools in Ann Arbor; Nicole Hite, Temperance Road Elementary in Bedford; Judy Huynh, Palo Schools; Kathleen Lehman, Belding Middle School; and Angie Vandewarker, Carson-Crystal Schools.
